The next Flames Club Luncheon will be held Oct. 30 at Noon in the Williams Football Operations Center (FOC) Donor Room. Football Coach Danny Rocco, Men's Basketball Coach Dale Layer and Women's Basketball Coach Carey Green will be the featured speakers.
The luncheon is open to the public and the buffet menu will include chicken cordon bleu, stuffed pork chops, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans, corn, tossed salad, rolls and chocolate chip cookies. Tickets are $10 for Flames Club members or $15 for non-members. Advanced purchase is recommended, but not required, as seating is limited to the first 100 guests. A door prize will be provided by the LU Bookstore.
Coach Danny Rocco is a three-time Big South Coach of the Year award winner in his first three seasons at Liberty, and has led the Flames to two consecutive conference championships. The Flames football team won a school-record 10 games in 2008, and finished the season with the highest national ranking in program history (No. 14).
Coach Dale Layer returns to Liberty after serving one year as an assistant coach at Marquette, where he helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 25-10 record and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He previously was the head coach at Colorado State, taking the Rams to the NCAA Tournament in 2003. Layer won a total of 270 games before coming to Liberty as an assistant in 2007.
Coach Carey Green is beginning his 11th season at Liberty, and owns a 237-77 (.755) record and a winning percentage which ranks No. 9 all-time among NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches. He has led the Lady Flames to the Big South Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in nine of his previous 10 seasons.
The Flames Club is the channel through which individuals and businesses can support Liberty Athletics financially. The Flames Club grew to more than 1,500 members in 2008, who contributed nearly $400,000 to help strengthen the LU Athletics program. The Flames Club is on record pace again this year, in terms of number of members and dollars contributed.
Flames Club membership begins at just $50, and members can enjoy preferred seating, parking and pre-game dining privileges, based upon contribution level. The Flames Club holds a monthly luncheon where members and guests can enjoy a great meal and hear from the Flames coaching staff. Future luncheons are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28; Thursday, March 25; and Thursday, May 13.
