Voting is now open for Biggest Win, the first of five award categories in the 2008 Sparkys. The five nominees include triumphs by the Liberty volleyball, football, men's soccer, wrestling and women's basketball teams. For in-depth supporting information on each of the nominees, click here.
Liberty fans can choose the past year's Biggest Win from among the following five options: the volleyball team's 3-0 sweep of Winthrop, which halted the Eagles' 63-match conference winning streak, the football team's 31-0 victory at Gardner-Webb, which sealed the Flames' first-ever Big South title, the men's soccer team's 2-1 win over Radford in the Big South Championship match, the wrestling team's second straight NCAA East Regional crown and the women's basketball team's buzzer-beating 66-65 victory over Radford in the Big South Championship game.
The winner will be determined through fan voting on the Flames Poll. The Flames Poll is located on the right-hand side of the main page of LibertyFlames.com.
A year ago, the football squad captured the inaugural Sparky for Biggest Win, by virtue of its 34-20 home triumph over No. 24 Charleston Southern on Nov. 11, 2006.
The 2008 Sparkys will be awarded in five categories. In addition to Biggest Win, the Best Individual Performance, Best Newcomer, Best Female Athlete and Best Male Athlete from 2007-08 will each be honored.
The poll for Biggest Win will remain open until July 28, at which time the winner will be announced on LibertyFlames.com and balloting for Best Individual Performance will begin. A full voting schedule appears below.
