FieldTurf Fill Process To Begin Over Weekend
8/25/2006 12:00:00 AM | Football
The work week ended on Friday with the last few details being taken care of before the FieldTurf fill process begins over the weekend. One Million pounds of sand and rubber pellets will be filled into the turf. The process will consist of a layer of sand and than a layer of rubber pellets. That will continue 13 times over the field with each pass taking four hours to complete. When the process is done the FieldTurf will look like grass that has been cut a half inch high.
A truckload of 32 rolls of FieldTurf arrived on August 11th, while the remaining nine rolls and necessary materials to complete the project arrived the following day.
On August 13th, the first roll of FieldTurf were installed, starting at approximately the 50 yard line and installation crews continue to work their way towards the new Williams Football Operations Center in the North end zone. The complete installation project is scheduled to take 10 to 14 days (weather permitting).
The installation of the new FieldTurf is one of numerous athletics facility upgrades to take place all around the Liberty University campus this summer. Last week, flag poles were installed atop the East stands at Williams Stadium and on the lawn in front of the Hancock Athletic Center.
The floor in the top portion of the Hancock Athletic Center weight room was renovated, while the court and the surface around the court were redone in the Vines Center.
Finally, besides the surface renovations at Williams Stadium, the completion of the Williams Football Operation Center is within days as construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the 60,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility.
