Bill Smith stepped into his role as Assistant Athletics Communications Director on July 1, 2019. Smith previously served as an Athletics Communications Assistant for one year prior to being elevated into a full-time role.
Smith is the primary contact for the Liberty men's basketball and field hockey programs while also assisting with other sports. He also served as the primary contact for the men's tennis, women's tennis and women's lacrosse programs at Liberty for seven academic years (2016-23).
Smith also served for two years as the Athletics Communications Graduate Assistant at Liberty. While serving as a graduate assistant, Smith completed his Master of Science degree in Sport Management in May 2018.
Prior to coming to Liberty, Smith served as the Sports Communications Assistant at Harper College in Palatine, Ill., for over three years. In that role, he was the primary media contact and handled all sports information for 12 Harper athletics teams. He also served as a Writing Specialist in the Harper College Writing Center for nearly three years, assisting students with their essays.
In May 2012, Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Communications from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill., after receiving an Associate of Arts degree from Harper College in 2009. During summer 2012, Smith served as the media relations intern for the Rockford RiverHawks professional baseball team, an independent league team that played in Loves Park, Ill.
Smith was a four-year college baseball starter, playing two seasons each at Harper and Trinity.
Originally from Arlington Heights, Ill., Smith currently resides in Lynchburg with his wife, Lisa, and their daughter Maitland.
