Andrew Cox joined the Liberty baseball staff in Aug. 2024. Cox assists in all aspects of the Liberty baseball program, focusing on player development, hitting and team defense.
Cox joins the Liberty staff, after two years as an assistant on Bradley LeCroy’s staff at VCU. Following a 25-30 record during his first season with the Rams in 2022, Cox was part of a staff that guided VCU to a dramatic turnaround in 2024. The Rams posted a 38-23 record in 2024, finishing in second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings with a 15-8 record.
VCU went on to advance to a NCAA Regional by going unbeaten in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship, outscoring its opponents, 44-13, in four tournament games. At the NCAA Greenville Regional, VCU opened play with a 1-0 victory over No. 22 Wake Forest.
During his two seasons at VCU, Cox saw third baseman Brandon Eike twice selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team and named 2014 A10 Player of the Year.
The Belton, S.C., native spent two years at Western Carolina before his time at VCU. He helped the Catamounts to a 28-win campaign in 2021 and saw six players take home All-Southern Conference honors during his tenure. The former student-athlete spent two years at Furman, first as a volunteer assistant, and later as director of operations after his graduation from Clemson in 2017.
Cox spent five years in the Clemson baseball program from 2012-2017 where he played for LeCroy, then an assistant on the Tigers’ coaching staff. Cox played in 186 games over his four-year career, playing in both the infield and outfield. During his final campaign with the Tigers in 2017, he started 59 of 62 games and hit .280 with 65 hits. He belted six home runs and knocked in 35 RBI. He was named to the Atlantic Coast All-Conference third team and was the recipient of the 2017 Tiger Baseball Award, given annually to the program’s top leader.
A four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection, Cox graduated from Clemson in May of 2016 with a degree in parks, recreation, and tourism management. He earned a Master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from Clemson in August 2018.
Cox lives in Lynchburg.
