Paul Anthony is in his second year as a member of the Flames wrestling coaching staff and will once again serve as a volunteer assistant coach.
During his first year with the program, Anthony played a vital part in helping reestablish Liberty’s wrestling program following a 12-year hiatus. During its first season back on the mats since 1994, Anthony helped guide four wrestlers to the NCAA National Wrestling Championship and Liberty to a team championship at the NCAA East Regional.
Anthony came to Liberty from Brookville High School in Lynchburg, where he has served as the head wrestling coach and a physical education instructor for the past 16 years.
During his time at Brookville, Anthony compiled a dual meet record of 202-42-1, while capturing 16 district championships, three region titles and 12 top ten finishes at the state championships. Individually, he coached eight individual state champions, 46 state place winners, 32 regional champions and 96 district champions.
Anthony has also coached at the collegiate level as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech and at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C., where he led the Braves to a 25-5 record and had three All-Americans.
As a high school competitor, he won a Virginia state championship and was a two-year letter winner at Virginia Tech. He and his wife Sherry have three children, Matt, Daniel and Diana.
