Former Liberty track & field standout Chad Wilson returns to the Flames this season, serving as a volunteer assistant.
Wilson, a 2004 Liberty graduate, was an assistant track & field coach at Brookville High School from 2005-10. During his time at Brookville, the Bees finished in the top five at the state meet five times, including a state title in boys’ indoor track at the 2007 Virginia Class AA meet. Additionally, Brookville’s girls’ 4 x 100 relay team, including current Lady Flame Shelley Parker, won the AA state title in 2008.
Wilson capped off his track & field career at Liberty by qualifying for the 2004 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the long jump, where he finished 16th. He was also the IC4A outdoor men’s long jump champion that year.
A standout at the Big South level, Wilson captured eight individual conference titles for the Flames. He was also a two-time Big South Outstanding Men’s Field Performer.
Wilson owns school records in both the long jump (25-6.75) and 4 x 200 relay (1:24.23). He is also married to a Liberty school record holder, Kena (Butts) Wilson. She holds the Liberty records in both the indoor and outdoor women’s high jump.
Wilson graduated from Liberty in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
