2007 (Jr.): Along with Jon Hart, was one of the first two Liberty throwers ever to compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where he narrowly missed All-America status with a 10th-place discus finish … set the school and Big South discus record (198-2) during the preliminary round at the national meet … recorded a solid Big South outdoor meet, winning the discus, finishing second in the shot put and claiming fourth in the hammer … won the Big South Track Athlete of the Week award twice (April 11, May 3) … also placed in a trio of events at the IC4A outdoor championships, taking second in the discus, sixth in the shot and seventh in the hammer … ended up third in the Texas Relays discus and was fourth at the Penn Relays … indoors, was second in the shot put at the Big South meet and third in the weight throw … second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection … made the Big South and USTFCCCA All-Academic teams … was a Big South Presidential Honor Roll selection.
2005 (So.): Junior college All-American at South Plains College after placing second at the national meet in the discus.
2004 (Fr.): Threw the shot 44-0 and the discus 165-0 under the coaching of Lance Bingham at South Plains College.
Prep: Attended Meadow H.S., also the alma mater of Liberty assistant coach Lance Bingham.
Personal: Son of Darla Melton … married to Coach Brant Tolsma's daughter, Brenda … kinesiology major … birthday is Aug. 1.
