Liberty softball senior and preseason Conference USA Pitcher of the Year Elena Escobar is ready to lead the Lady Flames pitching staff this spring. Last year, Escobar helped Liberty win the CUSA title and advance to a regional final. Escobar says her most important part of prepping for each outing is a pregame prayer.
"Before the second time we played Georgia in the Regional championship, me and Maddie Bachman were in the bullpen. I was just sitting there thinking about how terrible the game before that was, and she was just like, 'Can I pray with you?' and I was like, 'Yes', and we just took that moment in the bullpen to just sit and pray, and to thank god that we were there. To take away our fears and our worries."
Escobar and the Lady Flames are in Leesburg, Fla. this weekend for five games. Liberty will meet Radford in the season opener on Thursday at 4 p.m.
