Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Tuesday, October 1, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
Preseason practice continues for the Liberty men's basketball team. The Flames will open the season in about five weeks and returning guard Kaden Metheny says the team has taken on a new and improved look from last year.
"Yeah, I think talent wise, like, we brought in really good players, man. We're longer, we're lengthier this year and that was a big emphasis this year, I think, going into Conference USA, just the athleticism and the length, and we've got some athletic guys on the team this year so, it'll be really exciting to see."
Metheny averaged 13 points last year in his first season with the Flames, who add five new players this year from the transfer portal. Liberty will open the year against Valparaiso on November 4th in Ohio.
And former Flames basketball forward Shiloh Robinson is turning pro. Recently, Robinson signed his first contract with CD Povoa in Portugal. In five seasons at liberty, Robinson finished in the program's top 35 in points and rebounds. Robinson also helped Liberty claim two ASUN Conference titles during his time.
