Former Liberty baseball shortstop Matt Williams is back on the Mountain, now as an assistant coach. Williams joins Scott Jackson's staff this spring to coach hitting, defense and assist in recruiting. For Williams, his message to the players is clear.
"The most important thing is to play fearless and to play free. You know, it's easy to get caught up in mechanics and 'I should field this ball this way, etc.' but then when the bell rings at the end of the day you've got to just use your athleticism and go make the play. So, I just think freeing up these guys to be themselves on the field, we'll work on mechanics and we'll work on footwork, but at the end of the day when the ball's hit to you, be athletic and make the play and have some fun with it."
