Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Tuesday, January 16, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
For the fifth time this year, Liberty's Asia Boone is the Conference USA Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week. Boone averaged nine points in two games last week for the Lady Flames, including 12 in a win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Boone and the Lady Flames will visit FIU and Sam Houston later this week.
Former Liberty baseball shortstop Matt Williams is back with the program as an assistant coach. Williams joins head coach Scott Jackson's staff as the Flames' new hitting coach and will also work with the infielders. Williams has been a scout with the Minnesota Twins for the last six years. From 2009-11, Williams hit .327 for Liberty before he was drafted in the 15th round by the Saint Louis Cardinals.
The countdown to opening day for Flames baseball is down to 31 days. Liberty will open the season at home with a three-game set against Quinnipiac. Game one is Friday, February 16th at 4 p.m.
