Jersey numbers are meant to serve as a means of identifying players on a field or a court. But in some cases, for players, those numbers take on a more significant meaning. For Lady Flames basketball center Emmy Stout, her number '17' has spiritual significance.
"I Timothy 1:17 is my favorite verse, 'All honor to God, forever and ever. He's the eternal king, amen.' I think that just kind of like. Whenever I go out and play basketball, I want to honor Him and all that He does. So, that number reminds me whatever I do, I want to honor Him, because He is our eternal king and He is our father and our ultimate goal is to serve Him."
In her Liberty debut, Stout scored 23 points and had 16 rebounds for a double-double in a win over Randolph. Stout and the Lady Flames open Conference USA play this Thursday at Western Kentucky. Liberty's men also open CUSA play on Thursday when they host Western Kentucky at seven o'clock.
