Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Tuesday, December 10, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
It's been a record-breaking week for the Lady Flames indoor track & field team. Most recently, Allie Zealand shattered the program 3K record in her collegiate debut, clocking 9:07.33 at Boston University, last Saturday. Zealand is the daughter of Liberty assistant coach and national champion runner Heather Zealand. Before that, Liberty's Meredith Engle won the group a pentathlon at the Liberty Kickoff with a program record score of 3,989. The team has the next few weeks off before hosting it's next event on campus January 10th.
And Liberty is one of the American Football Coaches Association's Academic Achievement Award winners. The Flames were joined by Air Force, Clemson, Notre Dame, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin. All seven schools shared the highest graduation rate for members of their 2017 freshman classes. Liberty will face Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl on January 4th.
