Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Thursday, January 25, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
Preseason baseball practice begins Friday for the Flames as the team prepares for it's first season in Conference USA. A blend of newcomers and some of last year's top performers make up this spring's roster. Eighth-year head coach Scott Jackson on how the team is approaching preseason prep.
"The sense of urgency is always going to be there for us this time of year because you've got such a short window to get ready to play. So, if we can just limit those opportunities for other teams to score and make it a clean scrimmage and make plays and throw strikes then I'll feel really good about where we are from that first weekend moving forward."
Liberty opens the season at home against Quinnipiac on February 16th.
Meanwhile, the Liberty softball season gets going a week earlier. The Lady Flames will open the year in Clearwater, Fla. at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with games against Oregon, Clemson, Missouri and Notre Dame. Liberty's season opener is February 9th against Saint John's.
