This is your Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Thursday, August 31, 2023, I'm Nick Pierce.
Last year, Liberty boasted one of the top defenses in college football, leading the nation in tackles-for-loss, finishing third in sacks and top 25 in turnovers. This year, only three starters return, including defensive tackle and team captain Kendy Charles.
"Definitely last year's defense was one of the best defenses I've played in but I think we can definitely do that again. Especially with the scheme we're running and the type of player we have on this defense. I think we can do it again. That's our goal every year is to be the best defense in the country."
Liberty opens the season this Saturday at home against Bowling Green. Kickoff's at 12 Noon at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg.
And Lady Flames soccer looks to stay unblemished tonight. Liberty travels to Longwood for a six o'clock match. The Lady Flames are 4-0 and have the longest unbeaten streak in the nation going back to last year at 14-0-3.
