Time now for today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Monday, May 27, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
Six Liberty outdoor track & field athletes are headed to the NCAA National Championships. Over the weekend at the NCAA Division I East First Rounds at Kentucky, Calli Doan in the steeplechase and Makenzy Mizera in the triple jump became liberty's final two qualifiers. Doan made the cut despite falling with just over a lap to go. Mizera becomes the first ever Lady Flame to qualify for nationals in the triple jump. They join Paola Bueno in the women's hammer, Katie Urbine in the women's pole vault from the Lady Flames headed to nationals.
Liberty's men also had John Hicks qualify in the hammer and Ben Shughart in the javelin. The national championships begin on June 5th in Eugene, Ore.
And two Flames baseball players are on the Conference USA All-Tournament team. Pitcher Cole Hertzler and right-fielder Camden Troyer represented the Flames, who were eliminated in the semifinals on Saturday.
