Time now for today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Monday, March 18, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
The Flames baseball team picks up a series win at home. Sunday in Lynchburg, Liberty came from behind to beat Canisius, 10-9 to take two of three in the series. Tied at nine in the eighth inning, freshman shortstop Tanner Marsh hit a solo home run, the first of his career, putting Liberty ahead for good.
"Felt great. You know, I was just trying to get in the box and do what was best for the team, not try to do too much with the baseball. We just needed base runners late in the game in that situation and I was just trying to have a competitive at-bat."
On to softball, Liberty capped a three-game Conference USA series sweep on Sunday with a 6-1 win over Jacksonville State. Katie Love got the win in relief, tossing five scoreless innings – one day after pitching a no-hitter against the Gamecocks.
And on Sunday, from women's tennis, Liberty got it's first ever win over Virginia Tech. The No. 66 ranked Lady Flames topped the Hokies, 5-2 in Lynchburg.
