Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Monday, August 5, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
Flames football is entering it's second week of fall camp. On defense, head coach Jamey Chadwell says the team is focused on getting takeaways. Even though the Flames led the nation in interceptions last year, Chadwell wants his team getting turnovers in multiple ways.
"We have emphasized all offseason the opportunity to take the ball away - one thing about last year we had those 21 turnovers – we hardly had any fumbles. So, the big emphasis that we've had this offseason is more of the tackling and stripping the ball. We might not get 21 interceptions, but can we add some fumbles in there and offset that. But we do have to have a swarm mindset there. I do like the group on that side of the ball. I think there's a lot of competition. I think you'll see us play, this year, a lot of different people, whereas last year we didn't hardly play anybody except the main ones."
And we're now just 26 days away from kickoff! Liberty hosts Campbell in the season opener on August 31st.
