Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Friday, June 7, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
From the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., two Lady Flames earn All-American honors. Katie Urbine is a second-team All-American after finishing tenth in the pole vault. Urbine becomes the first freshman Lady Flame to ever be named a Division I All-American in track and field.
Paola Bueno is also a second-team All-American after placing 11th in the women's hammer. Also, Liberty's Calli Doan is moving on to the women's steeplechase final. Doan's season-best time of 9:53.59 in Thursday's semifinal qualified her for Saturday's final.
No one is competing at nationals today for the Flames but on Saturday, Makenzy Mizera will represent Liberty in the women's triple jump. The event is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+. And Doan's women's steeplechase final will begin Saturday at 5:54 p.m. Eastern. You can see it on ESPN.
