Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Friday, August 16, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
Liberty is picked second in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference men's soccer poll. The Flames had three first place votes and finished behind last year's conference champion SIU Edwardsville.
Liberty won nine games last year and returns a veteran core including last year's top scorer, Luke Eberle. Flames Head Coach Kelly Findley on expectations entering this fall.
"Yeah, we're excited. I think we underperformed last year and often times when you have that bitter taste in your mouth, you're just setting yourself up for a really good season and expectations are high and we're hungry to make those happen."
The Lady Flames soccer team opened the season with a win on Thursday night. Liberty topped High Point, 3-1. Gabby Miranda had two goals for the Flames.
And from football – Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter is on the Manning Award Preseason Watch List. The list includes 29 quarterbacks from across the country.
