Press Conference: Ball State

As part of the team's preparations for their next home game against Ball State on Saturday, Liberty Head Football Coach Jamey Chadwell met with the media on Tuesday.

During the media session, Chadwell provided his final thoughts on Liberty's victory over Gardner-Webb and looked ahead to this week's match-up against Ball State.

After Chadwell's weekly presser, wide receiver Darius Copeland and defensive lineman Lorenzo Payne addressed the media from the Media Room inside the Liberty Football Center.

The Flames are coming off their sixth consecutive one-possession contest. Jaylen Henderson's 54-yard touchdown pass to Darius Copeland with 2:34 to play lifted Liberty to a 24-23 come-from-behind win over Gardner-Webb.

The Flames' only previous meeting with Ball State was notable. Liberty posted a 27-23 road win over the Cardinals on Sept. 11, 2010, for their second win over an FBS foe in program history.

Liberty is just 7-12 against MAC opponents all-time but owns a 3-0 mark at Williams Stadium. That includes a 34-24 triumph over Bowling Green in Jamey Chadwell's head coaching debut with the Flames on Sept. 2, 2023.

Chadwell is 26-14 at Liberty and owns a 57-20 coaching record dating back to the start of 2020. He earned career victory No. 125 last Saturday.

Two of Liberty's three touchdowns against Gardner-Webb came on long passing plays. Deshawn Purdie found Makai Jackson for a 65-yard touchdown less than four minutes into the game, and Henderson connected with Copeland on the aforementioned 54-yard game winner.

Liberty's defense forced three turnovers against Gardner-Webb (two interceptions, one fumble recovery), held quarterback Cole Pennington to a season-low 186 passing yards and recorded 10 tackles for a loss.
