
Liberty Upends Longwood 6-1 at Home

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis (3-3) defeated Longwood (0-2) 6-1 on Friday at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. Liberty secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and won five of the six singles matches.
"The guys did a good job of starting strong in singles," Head Coach Derek Schwandt said. "The aggression and intensity needs to be better in doubles. We are excited about regrouping and preparing for an awesome opportunity vs Penn State on Sunday at home."
Liberty secured the doubles point with victories at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Guy Vorwerk delivered a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Petter Lindquist and Rufus Plane. Liberty clinched the point as Benjamin Sparks and David Ekpenyong claimed a 7-6 (8) victory at No. 2 doubles over Alejandro Uribe and Daniel Lopez. The match at No. 1 doubles between Siwanat Auytayakul and Ernst Gouws from Liberty and Daniel Borisov and Ninad Raut from Longwood was left unfinished at 6-6.
In singles play, Liberty extended its lead at No. 2 singles, where Siwanat Auytayakul defeated Rufus Plane 6-1, 6-0. Sparks added another victory at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Daniel Lopez.
Chase Robinson clinched the match for the Flames for the Flames at No. 5 singles, securing a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Alejandro Uribe. The win secured Liberty's second straight win as the Flames look to gain a winning record on Sunday against Penn State.
David Ekpenyong continued the momentum with a hard-fought win at No. 3 singles, overcoming Ninad Raut 6-4, 7-6(8). In the final singles match of the night, Arraez rallied from behind to defeat Daniel Borisov 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, sealing Liberty's decisive victory.
