LYNCHBURG, Va. – Three meets into his collegiate career, Liberty's Gilles Ouedraogo has broken the men's triple jump program record three times and is now a three-time CUSA Men's Field Athlete of the Week as well.
Ouedraogo's previous CUSA weekly honors came on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3. The Flames have captured the CUSA Men's Field Athlete of the Week award all six weeks they have competed this season, also including honors by Joshua Smith (Dec. 9), Chase Johnson (Jan. 13) and Markus White (Jan. 20).
A junior from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Ouedraogo reached 52-7.25 in round six of the men's triple jump competition at Saturday's Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. The jump shattered Ouedraogo's previous record of 51-8.25 from the Brant Tolsma Elite Invitational on Jan. 30 and made him the first Flame ever to triple jump 16 meters (16.03m, to be exact), indoors or out.
Ouedraogo is currently tied with Donovan Anderson of Rutgers for No. 19 nationally this season. The top 16 men's triple jumpers after conference championship weekend will qualify to the 2026 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships will return to the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex, Feb. 27-28. The Lady Flames will aim for their fifth consecutive indoor conference title, while the Flames will attempt to reclaim the crown after finishing second to Kennesaw State a year ago. Portions of both days' action will air on ESPN+.
