
Aggies Sweep Lady Flames, Split Weekend Series

LYNCHBURG, Va. – New Mexico State earned a weekend split at Liberty, posting a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-13) victory over the Lady Flames, Saturday at Liberty Arena.
The Aggies improve to 9-10 on the season, including 2-4 in CUSA play. The Lady Flames (12-6, 4-2) saw their winning streak snapped at four.

The Lady Flames fly to Miami, Fla., and will take on 2025 CUSA runner-up FIU, Friday and Saturday at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

- New Mexico State outhit Liberty .314-.181 for the match, with the Aggies also leading in kills (44-35), assists (44-33), aces (5-3), digs (49-44) and blocks (7-6).
- New Mexico State's Jaelynn Kohli led all players with 11 kills, hitting .550. Mia Fox connected for kills on nine out of her 10 attack attempts, while Ashley Herman hit .429 with eight kills. Paige Nelson dished out 25 assists, while Makayla Martinez collected a match-high 16 digs and served up three aces. Maggie Lightheart totaled six kills and 13 digs.
- Paige Overcash led Liberty with 10 kills, adding 10 digs for her third career double-double and first of the season. Layla Collins posted a match-high five blocks. Jenna Otts scored nine kills, followed by Addison Hart with seven. Alison Bierwagen dished out a match-high 28 assists while also posting seven digs and two blocks. Melis Ural collected 15 digs, while Kayla O'Brien contributed two aces and six digs.
- New Mexico State led set one, 23-20, after a Lilli Saldivar kill. Liberty narrowed the gap to 23-22, as Overcash scored a kill followed by a Hart/Collins combo block. After an Aggie sideout, Overcash made it 24-23 with a kill, but an error on the next serve sealed NM State's 25-23 win.
- Liberty built an early 10-5 lead during the second set, scoring four points on O'Brien's serve. The Lady Flames held a 13-9 lead after an Otts kill, but the Aggies responded with an 8-1 run to take a three-point lead and never allowed Liberty closer than two points after that.
- New Mexico State leads Liberty 5-2 all-time in volleyball, with the Aggies holding a 4-2 lead in the series since both teams joined CUSA in 2023.
- Ural has collected 10 or more digs in each of the last 16 matches. That is the longest streak of 10-dig matches by a Lady Flame since Macy Phillips ended the 2019 season with 18 straight 10-dig contests.
- Prior to being outhit today, Liberty had outhit each of its last nine opponents since falling to Army 3-0 on Sept. 11.
