LYNCHBURG, Va. – In a packed Liberty Indoor Tennis Center, Penn (3-1) battled the Flames (1-3) behind a packed crowd to take a 6-1 road victory.
The Flames fell in the doubles round despite an initial victory on court two from David Ekpenyong and Benjamin Sparks. Penn sealed the doubles advantage with a 6-4 triumph on court three. Penn's No. 8 ranked pair of Manfredi Graziani and Aaron Sandler topped Liberty's Carl Roothman and Siwanat Auytayakul 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match.
The Quakers earned their first singles point as Matthew Rutter handled Ernst Gouws 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles match.
Penn clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win from Vojtech Vales over Chase Robinson in the No. 5 singles match. Play continued on the remaining three courts.
Liberty secured its first singles point as Carl Roothman topped Luke Butera 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match.
In what proved to be the tightest match of the evening, Penn's No. 41 Manfredi Graziani topped Rodrigo Santiago Arraez 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match.
The Flames fall to 1-1 at home this season and 0-3 all-time against Penn.
