LYNCHBURG, Va. – Gilles Ouedraogo's first meet as a Liberty Flame resulted in his first CUSA weekly honor, as he was named CUSA Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
A native of Burkina Faso, Ouedraogo reached 51-7.75 on his second triple jump attempt at Friday's Liberty Open. That mark won the competition and eclipsed the program record of 51-3.5 set by Joshua Smith earlier this season at the Liberty Kickoff.
Ouedraogo's jump was the longest indoor mark by a CUSA athlete since 2022 and ranks No. 20 nationally this season.
Liberty will return to action at the sixth annual Brant Tolsma Elite Invitational sponsored by Beynon. Due to Saturday's weather forecast, the meet will now take place on Thursday (pentathlon and heptathlon day one) and Friday (all other events) at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Friday's events will air on FloTrack.
