ATLANTA, Ga. – The Liberty men's tennis team narrowly fell at Georgia Tech with a 5-2 final on Monday afternoon. The Flames begin the season with an 0-2 mark after the season-opening road trip.
Liberty secured the initial doubles point, highlighted by a dominating 6-0 sweep in the No. 2 doubles match from David Ekpenyong and Benjamin Sparks. The Flames earned the point on court three with Guy Vorwerk and Rodrigo Santiago Arraez prevailing in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5).
Georgia Tech secured the first three singles matches to gain a 3-1 advantage, forcing the Flames to win the remaining three matches for the victory. Despite all three reaching a third set, Chase Robinson was the lone victor with a 7-5, 6-7 (9), 6-1 final in the No. 6 singles match.
The Yellowjackets clinched the match with Jonathan Irwanto taking down Siwanat Auytayakul 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in the No. 3 singles match.
On court one, Arraez was battling with No. 72 Hidde Schoenmakers and played to a third-set tiebreaker. The Flames were narrowly edged in the first set, controlled the second set, but came up a few points short in the tiebreaker to fall 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
