LYNCHBURG, Va. – Four of Liberty's standout performers from the Florida Relays have earned CUSA weekly recognition. Reese Webster and Omari Lewis swept the CUSA Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Paola Bueno was named CUSA Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Elijah Sherard was tabbed CUSA Men's Freshman of the Week.
Webster started things off by helping the Lady Flames' 4 x 100 relay squad qualify for the final with a program-record time of 44.61, eclipsing a mark that had stood since 2018. The junior from San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago went on to place ninth in the women's 200 (outdoor personal-best 23.14 into a headwind) and take 24th in the 100 (11.57).
Webster currently ranks No. 1 in CUSA for the 200, No. 2 for the 4 x 100 relay and No. 5 for the 100. Nationally, Webster sits No. 23 in the 200 and No. 24 for the 4 x 100.
Another junior from Trinidad and Tobago (Arouca), Lewis blazed to a third-place finish in the men's 100, clocking a season-best 10.05. He also competed on the Flames' 4 x 100 relay squad which ran 40.26 for 17th place.
Lewis tops the CUSA performance list for both the 100 and 4 x 100 relay this season. He is tied for fifth nationally in the 100, while the Flames' season-best 4 x 100 time of 39.42 is good for 16th.
Bueno collected her first-ever CUSA weekly honor after improving her own program record to 212-8 in the women's hammer. That effort placed the junior from Nayarit, Mexico fourth in the competition. The All-American sits No. 17 nationally, including second among CUSA throwers.
Sherard came in 19th in the men's 400 with a personal-best and Liberty freshman record time of 46.65. He also split 46.67 for the Flames' 15th-place 4 x 400 relay squad which posted the program's fastest time since 2019, a 3:10.32.
Sherard ranks No. 2 in CUSA, No. 49 nationally and No. 5 in program history for the 400. The Lynchburg, Va., native is also part of CUSA's second fastest 4 x 400 relay squad this season.
A group of Liberty decathletes and heptathletes will compete at the Duke Invitational, Thursday and Friday in Durham, N.C. The remainder of the team will take part in the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, slated for Friday and Saturday at the University of Lynchburg's Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
