
Liberty to Host Middle Tennessee in CUSA Series this Weekend

Quick Hits
• After a four-game road swing, the Liberty Flames return home to Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium to start a six-game homestand by hosting the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders for a three-game CUSA series beginning Friday.Â
• The series will be the first meeting between the two teams in Lynchburg. Last season, the Flames and the Blue Raiders met for the first time in their programs' histories in Murfreesboro, with the Flames taking the series 2-1.
• Liberty fell at Charlotte 5-3 on Tuesday to conclude its road swing with a 1-3 record. The loss runs the Flames' record to 4-2 on Tuesdays this season.
• The Flames enter the weekend with a 14-4 record at home in 2025. Liberty went 7-2 on its last homestand.
• Bradley LeCroy was named the eighth head coach in Flames' history in July 2024. He is in his third year as a head coach after two years at VCU.

• Liberty enters the week among the national leaders in fielding percentage. The Flames lead CUSA and are 18th nationally with a 0.980 fielding percentage.Â
• Liberty has committed 20 errors this season and did not commit an error in 17 games.
• The Flames have also turned 23 double plays and are currently 36th nationally.Â
Marsh Madness
• The saying goes that "March goes out like a lion," and the same can be said of Flames shortstop Tanner Marsh. Marsh hit a .400 and scored eight runs, both team-highs, over the final seven games of March. He continued to hit hot, hitting at Charlotte Tuesday with two hits and scoring a run, up-ping his batting average to .412 and nine runs scored over the last eight games.
• During the eight-game stretch, the sophomore has also walked six times and sports a .500 on-base percentage. He also has five RBI.Â
• Marsh had at least one hit in every game and has five multi-hit games in the span. He has raised his overall batting average 48 points from .244 to .292 over the stretch.
• Having scored nine runs in the last eight games, the shortstop has scored 29 runs. He is second on the Flames and currently 10th in CUSA in runs scored.
Power Surge
• First baseman Jaxon Sorenson had quite a weekend at the plate during Liberty's series against New Mexico State, March 21-23. Four of his five hits during the series were home runs, and he belted a home run in each game of the series.
• The junior became the second Flame in as many years to hit three home runs in three consecutive games, as Brian McClellin also achieved this feat at New Mexico State (April 5-7) last season.  Before that, a Liberty player had not belted a home run in three consecutive games since Brady Gulakowski late in 2022 (May 21-25).
• Sorenson hit .385 with eight RBI and finished the series with a 1.308 slugging percentage.
• He started the weekend by hitting a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning last Friday for a 6-5 Flames win. Saturday, he belted a three-run home run and Sunday, he hit two home runs.
• Sorenson leads Liberty with nine home runs and is second in Conference USA. The first baseman also leads the Flames in RBI (31) and runs scored (31). He is sixth in RBI and eighth in runs scored in CUSA.
Mathiesen CUSA K King
• Right-hander Dylan Mathiesen enters his start on Friday, the CUSA leader in strikeouts with 58. He ranks 13th nationally in strikeouts.
• The junior right-hander is the CUSA leader and is 11th nationally with 14.11 strikeouts per nine innings.
• Mathiesen has started 10 games, which is the most by any pitcher in the country this season.
• In 37 innings, Mathiesen has posted a 1-1 record with a 4.38 ERA.
