LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Flames men's basketball program has announced the addition of transfer Ryan Jones Jr. for the 2025-26 academic year.
Jones Jr. is a 6-8 forward from Gainesville, Fla. who will be transferring from Virginia Tech with three years of eligibility remaining.
"RJ was really highly touted coming out of high school with his experience with USA Basketball and high-level AAU competition, not to mention his high school years at The Rock School and a season of tutelage under (Virginia Tech head coach) Mike Young," Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay stated. "We feel really good about his inclusion in our family. He's really skilled offensively not just in his shooting but also in his ability to see the floor. The quality of individual he is and the family he comes from fits our university and basketball program like a glove!"
Jones Jr. appeared in five games as a true freshman for the Hokies during the 2024-25 season. He was 3-of-5 from the floor in those contests and recorded four points and a rebound in his first collegiate game.
Prior to his stint at Virginia Tech, Jones Jr. was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and played at The Rock School. He was recognized as the 12th-best player in the state of Florida, 12th-best center nationally and 69th-best prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.
Jones Jr. won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and to the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA) first team as a junior.
