LYNCHBURG, Va. – Like many college students, Liberty's Meredith Engle will be heading to the beach for spring break. She will compete in the pentathlon at the 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 14 in Virginia Beach, Va., it was announced on Tuesday.
The pentathlon will begin at 9:35 a.m. on March 14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center and will air live on ESPN+.
A redshirt junior from Dillsburg, Pa., Engle qualified on the strength of her Liberty and meet-record score of 4,196 at the CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. That ranks No. 12 among the event's 16 national qualifiers.
Engle will be the Lady Flames' first pentathlete ever to compete at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships and Liberty's first women's athlete to take part in the meet since 2016 (Ednah Kurgat – 5K).
Engle, who shattered the CUSA meet record of 4,004 points, is the conference's first pentathlete to reach the NCAA national championship since 2012 (Houston's Megan Frausto).
Engle has broken the Liberty pentathlon record during each of her three competitions this season, scoring 3,989 at the Liberty Kickoff (Dec. 5), 4,131 at the Penn State National Open (Jan. 31) and 4,196 at the CUSA meet (Feb. 28). The only athlete to defeat Engle head to head this season (Penn State's Maddie Pitts) will join her in Virginia Beach next week.
