LYNCHBURG, Va. – Just after placing 12th in her NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships debut in the pentathlon on Friday, Liberty's Meredith Engle was presented with the NCAA Elite 90 Award for women's indoor track & field.
A redshirt junior from Dillsburg, Pa., Engle earned the award after graduating in May with a bachelor's degree in computer science and a perfect 4.0 GPA. She currently owns a 4.0 GPA as she begins work toward a master's degree in cybersecurity.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Engle becomes the fourth Liberty student-athlete overall to collect an NCAA Elite 90 Award since the program's inception in 2009-10, joining Alicia Finnigan (2018 women's swimming & diving), Reagan Underwood (2021 field hockey) and Ben Shughart (2024 men's outdoor track & field). Underwood, Shughart and Engle are all part of the current Liberty track & field roster and natives of Pennsylvania.
