
Washington Wizards’ Gill Named Liberty MBB Chief Basketball Advisor

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Washington Wizards forward Anthony Gill has been named the Chief Basketball Advisor for the Liberty men's basketball program.
"We're incredibly excited to announce Anthony Gill in a newly-created role for our program. The Chief Basketball Advisor will serve as a special advisor to the head coach and the Liberty Men's Basketball program, bringing a wealth of global basketball experience to the team, " said Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay. "In this role, he will provide valuable insight and guidance on basketball development, leadership and life beyond the court. His deep commitment to faith, family and mentorship aligns with training Champions for Christ."
"It is an unbelievable opportunity to be able to work with such an amazing university. God has truly blessed me with the ability to work with a program that values His name above all else," Gill stated. "I hope to reinforce values and help young men navigate life on and off the court."
Gill is in his seventh year in the NBA, all with the Wizards. Collegiately, Gill played for South Carolina (2011-12) and Virginia (2012-16), spending his final four years with the Cavaliers (redshirted 2012-13), three of which came with McKay on staff as the Virginia Associate Head Coach.
"Coach McKay plays a huge part in the man I am today. Now that I have an opportunity to work alongside him, I am truly honored," Gill said. "He redirected my life my freshman year of college. Now I have the chance to walk alongside him in shaping lives for God's glory."
Gill was a third team All-ACC honoree as a senior during the 2015-16 season and was named to the All-ACC Defensive team during the 2014 season. He currently ranks second in UVA program history for career field goal percentage (.582).
"I'm extremely excited about the addition of Anthony Gill to our basketball family! Having recruited, coached and developed an incredibly authentic relationship with Anthony and Jenna, I can tell you they are a fabulous addition to our program, "McKay stated. "They are unbelievable representatives of their families and will great representatives for our family and university as well. On every team he's been a part of, he's modeled what it means to be a great teammate and fully invested."
Gill went undrafted out of college and began his professional career in Turkey in 2016, followed by a stint with Khimki in Russia from 2017-20. In Dec. 2020, Gill signed a two-year contract with the Washington Wizards and has been with the squad ever. During the 2024-25 season, Gill appeared in 51 games for the Wizards. He played in a career-high 59 games during the 2022-23 campaign in the nation's capital.
