LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's basketball team has been invited to play in the 2024 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam in late November.
The eight-team tournament, in its 25th edition, will be held Nov. 22-25 at the St. Thomas and the University of Virgin Islands Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. The eight teams include: Liberty, Kansas State, McNeese, UAB, Louisiana, Longwood, George Washington and Illinois State.
Liberty's first game will be a quarterfinal matchup with the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern (6:30 p.m. Atlantic). All games will be televised across the ESPN platforms.
"Obviously, we're excited to compete in the Paradise Jam," said Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay. "The tournament has a rich tradition, and with nearly half the field having competed in the NCAA Tournament last season, the competition will be terrific!"
Of the eight-team field, four squads competed in postseason play during the 2023-24 season, with McNeese, UAB and Longwood playing in the NCAA Tournament and Kansas State competing in the NIT.
Owned and operated by Basketball Travelers, Inc., the Paradise Jam has already begun selling tickets here: https://www.eventcreate.com/e/2024-paradisejam-gamepasses. Liberty last played in and hosted the 2017 Paradise Jam at the Vines Center. Liberty served as a substitute host for the event due to hurricane damage in the U.S. Virgin Islands that year.
Last year's Paradise Jam champion was Missouri State, who defeated Abilene Christian 87-69 in the title game.
The Flames competed in a multi-team event last season at the 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational. Liberty went 3-0 at the tournament, capturing the title after victories over Furman (quarterfinals), Wichita State (semifinals) and Vermont (title game).
Head coach Ritchie McKay and the Flames have won 149 games over the last six seasons, eight most in the country during that span. Liberty has claimed eight total titles over the last six years – three ASUN Championship crowns, four ASUN regular-season titles and an ASUN division title.
The rest of Liberty's non-conference schedule will be released at a later date.
