EUGENE, Ore. – Making her U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field debut in the women's steeplechase, Liberty's Calli Doan placed 13th in her heat and 27th overall in the semifinals, Monday evening at Hayward Field.
Competing at the same venue where she had placed 10th in the NCAA Division I women's steeplechase final 16 days earlier, Doan posted a time of 10:01.77 in the sixth-year senior's final race in a Liberty uniform. That left her well shy of the 9:33.91 clocking necessary to advance to Thursday's final.
Doan wraps up her collegiate career as a three-time All-American, with two of those honors coming in the steeplechase. Prior to the Apex, N.C., native's arrival on campus, the Liberty women's steeplechase record stood at 10:35.19 (Piper Newby in 2007).
Doan broke the Liberty steeplechase record five times, beginning with a 10:25.34 effort the very first time she raced the event (2021 Virginia Challenge) and culminating with her 9:49.54 performance in this year's NCAA Division I national final. Following Monday's race, Doan owns the 13 fastest women's steeplechase times in Liberty history.
