Liberty Trio Set for Friday’s The Hill City Twilight

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's talented trio of Calli Doan (women's 1,500), Kyle Harkabus (men's 1,500) and Brendan Pitcher (men's 800) is set to compete in The Hill City Twilight, Friday at the University of Lynchburg's Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
Co-hosted by Lynchburg and Virginia Tech, the meet is expected to feature high-level mid-distance and distance competition.
Tentatively, the men's 1,500 is slated for 7:30 p.m. followed by the women's 1,500 at 7:40 and the men's 800 at 8:20.

Keeping Up with Kyle
Harkabus will be contesting his third 1,500 meter race in eight days. He won the previous two, thanks to a personal-best 3:42.10 clocking at the Charlotte Invitational on April 26 and a 3:42.78 effort at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on Wednesday.
Harkabus is aiming to improve his standing on the NCAA East Region men's 1,500 list, where he currently sits No. 60. He also would not mind breaking Ryan Drew's program record of 3:41.26 from the 2022 Liberty Twilight Qualifier.
Chasing Calli
Doan will compete in the 1,500 for the third time this season. Her fastest clocking of 2024 (4:21.34) came at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13.
Doan ranks No. 2 in program history with her 1,500 personal best of 4:15.34 from the 2023 Bran Clay Invitational. Coach Heather (Sagan) Zealand has owned the program record at 4:14.71 since the 2002 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Doan is coming off an impressive 800-meter outing on Wednesday. She raced to the Liberty Twilight Qualifier title in a facility-record and personal-best time of 2:05.92.
Breaking it Down with Brendan
CUSA indoor men's 800 champion Pitcher has been consistent during the outdoor campaign, running a pair of 1:49.32 efforts and a 1:49.67.
Some times to keep an eye on during Friday's race are 1:48.66 (currently No. 48 in the East Region), 1:48.70 (Bradley Prentice's program record from the 2018 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet) and 1:49.29 (Pitcher's personal best from the 2023 Liberty Twilight Qualifier). The fastest clocking by a CUSA runner this season is 1:48.93 by UTEP's Aron Tanui.
