Mizera, Barrett & Kiprop Earn CUSA Performer of the Meet Honors

A redshirt senior from Maryville, Mo., Mizera made a most impressive return from injury. She needed only four total attempts to sweep the CUSA women's long jump (indoor personal-best 19-9.5) and triple jump (39-10.75) crowns. She became the first women's athlete since 2018 (Rice's Michelle Fokam) to win both horizontal jumps at the CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Mizera's lone long jump measured 19-9.5, winning the event by four inches and falling less than an inch shy of the program record. The following day, Mizera's third and final triple jump attempt reached 39-10.75, which was good for a 7.5-inch victory.
A redshirt senior from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Barrett dominated the competition in the men's shot put. All five of the All-American's legal marks would have won the gold medal, including his round five effort of 61-2.5 that left Barrett 6.5 feet clear of the runner-up. It was the top shot put mark at this meet in four years.
A native of Kapsabet, Kenya, Kiprop had previously earned the CUSA Men's Freshman of the Meet trophy. The second and third races of his collegiate career resulted in victories in the men's 3K (8:15.26) and 5K (14:07.46). Kiprop's 5K clocking ranks No. 7 all-time for the Flames.
Kiprop became the first freshman to be tabbed CUSA Male Track Performer of the Meet since 2017, when UTEP's Michael Saruni claimed the honor.
Barrett will throw the shot put at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships for the second year in a row, Saturday at 2:45 p.m. The meet will take place at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
The rest of the Flames will turn their attention to the outdoor track & field campaign. Liberty's first outdoor meet will be the 49er Classic, set for March 14-16 at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center in Charlotte, N.C.
