LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's basketball program has released its inaugural Conference USA schedule for the 2023-24 season.
The Flames' first Conference USA game will take place early in 2024. Liberty will face Western Kentucky in a road game, Jan. 6. The Flames' first CUSA home game at Liberty Arena will be against Jacksonville State on Jan. 10.
Liberty will play 16 league games in its first season in Conference USA against eight different opponents (home-and-home). The teams in Conference USA for the 2023-24 season include: Liberty, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Jacksonville State, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston, New Mexico State and UTEP.
The majority of the Flames' league schedule will feature games on Thursdays and Saturdays. The first Thursday/Saturday games will be at home against FIU (Jan. 18) and Sam Houston (Jan. 20). All Liberty home CUSA games will tip off at 7 p.m. Eastern (subject to change per TV), with the exception of the Flames' regular season finale against Western Kentucky on March 9 (1 p.m. tip).
Five of Liberty's eight opponents in Conference USA will be first-time foes: Western Kentucky (Jan. 6 road, March 9 home), New Mexico State (Feb. 1 road, Feb. 29 home), UTEP (Feb. 3 road, March 2 home), Middle Tennessee (Feb. 8 home, March 6 home) and Louisiana Tech (Jan. 13 road, Feb. 10 home).
Liberty is 2-1 all-time against Jacksonville State (Jan. 10 home, Jan. 27 raoad), defeating the Gamecocks twice last season with both squads in the ASUN Conference. Liberty is 1-1 all-time versus Sam Houston (Jan. 20 home, Feb. 17 road). The Flames and Bearkats last met on Nov. 30, 2013, a 62-58 Liberty win. Liberty is 1-2 all-time against FIU (Jan. 18 home, Feb. 22 road). The Flames bested the Panthers 67-51 on Nov. 22, 1996 in the last matchup.
The 2024 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 12-16 at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala. Florida Atlantic (now in the American Athletic Conference) captured the 2023 Conference USA crown, topping UAB in the title game. Liberty has enjoyed postseason success in recent years, having won three ASUN titles (2019, 2020, 2021) in five seasons in the league.
The Flames have claimed eight total titles over the last five seasons in the ASUN – three ASUN Championship crowns, four ASUN regular season titles and a division title. Liberty has posted a 131-37 combined record over the past five years.

Flames fans have helped cheer the home team to a 44-4 record during three seasons of competition at Liberty Arena. Liberty posted a 19-1 home mark last season and will take a 17-game home winning streak into the 2023-24 campaign.
