A Liberty Athletics record six programs have been recognized by the NCAA for holding a perfect 1,000 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
Yesterday, the NCAA released its APR scores for the 2021-22 academic year and Liberty's men's cross country, men's golf, women's cross country, women's soccer, women's swimming & diving and women's tennis programs each posted a perfect 1,000 score.
Liberty's previous record for 1,000 APR scores in the same academic year was in 2014-15 and 2017-18 when four Flames' programs posted a perfect mark. This is the fifth year in a row Liberty's women's cross country team has posted an APR score of 1,000.
Since the NCAA started releasing the APR score information for the 2004-05 year (19 years), Liberty Athletics has had 33 teams post a perfect APR score of 1,000.
"Liberty student-athletes are thriving by every measure, and we are excited to celebrate these perfect APR scores for men's and women's cross country, men's golf, women's tennis, swimming and diving and women's soccer," said Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw.
In addition to the six programs with perfect APR scores, a total of nine Liberty Athletics programs currently boast their highest mark in program history: baseball (988), men's basketball (995), men's cross country (1,000), football (978), men's golf (1,000), women's cross country (1,000), women's soccer (1,000), women's swimming & diving (1,000), women's tennis (1,000).
Liberty's men's basketball program has seen its APR score increase each of the last five years, while the Flames' baseball, football and men's cross country have increased each of the last four years.
Overall, Liberty Athletics had nine programs post an APR score of 990 or higher (men's Basketball/995; men's cross country/1,000; men's golf/1,000; men's tennis/991; volleyball/995; women's cross country/1,000; women's soccer/1,000; women's swimming & diving/1,000; women's tennis/1,000).
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for postseason competition and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
