- The Flames and 49ers are meeting for the first time on the hardwood. The Liberty-Charlotte game is the first of three games on the day in the "He Gets Us" Hall of Fame Series at the Spectrum Center, home of the Charlotte Hornets. Virginia will face Florida at 7 p.m., and the final game of the day will feature Virginia Tech and South Carolina (9:30 p.m.).
- Liberty topped Mid-Atlantic Christian 103-43 in the season opener. Brody Peebles paced five Flames in double figures with 20 points, his second career 20-point game.
- Liberty has been picked to finish first in the Conference USA Men's Basketball Preseason Poll. The Flames share the top spot with Middle Tennessee, but Liberty received five first-place votes to MTSU's one.
- Kyle Rode has been tabbed to the 2023-24 CUSA Men's Basketball Preseason All-Conference team. Rode was a two-time ASUN All-Conference second team performer.
- Liberty participated in the 2021 Hall of Fame Shootout, defeating East Carolina 74-64 at the Spectrum Center (Dec. 17, 2021). Shiloh Robinson was named MVP of that game after totaling 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
- Liberty posted a 2-1 mark on a neutral floor during the 2022-23 season. The Flames split a pair of games at the Cancun Challenge, falling to Northwestern 66-52 and defeating Bradley 55-44. Liberty bested Bryant 82-62 at the 2022 Hall of Fame Classic in Springfield, Mass. While Friday's game between the Flames and 49ers is in Charlotte, it is still being considered a neutral site contest.
- Liberty will play arguably its most challenging non-conference schedule in program history prior to opening CUSA play on Jan. 6 at Western Kentucky. The Flames will face five teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament, including: No. 10 Florida Atlantic (Final Four team), No. 24 Alabama (No. 1 overall seed, Sweet 16 team), Furman (reached Round of 32), Charleston (31 wins) and Grand Canyon (WAC champion). Liberty will also square off with NIT Final Four participant Utah Valley as well as 2023 CBI champion Charlotte. Liberty will face nine teams that won 20 or more games last year, eight in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Seven of those nine opponents won 26 or more games a season ago.
- Liberty is listed at No. 6 in the College Insider Men's Mid-Major Top 25.
