LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty Head Derek Schwandt and the men's tennis team have announced the additions of Romeo Hadzimehmedovic and Rodrigo Santiago Arraez.
Both student-athletes will join the Flames in January.
"We are honored to have Romeo and Rodrigo join the Flames tennis family," Schwandt said of the two signings. "We are excited to surround them with a group of student-athletes who will challenge them on a daily basis on and off the court."
Romeo Hadzimehmedovic | Belgrade, Serbia
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Hadzimehmedovic achieved a No. 1185 ATP singles ranking. Hadzimehmedovic has competed in prestigious events, including the M25k Croatia (quarterfnals), the m15 Serbia (second round) and the M25k Serbia (second round).
Coach Schwandt: Romeo is a passionate competitor who has a big vision for our team and for his tennis game. Romeo will be a great teammate and someone who really takes advantage of everything Liberty has to offer on and off the court. He cares deeply about family and team.
Rodrigo Santiago Arraez | Toledo, Spain
Arraez, a native of Toledo, Spain, has made a name for himself by playing challenging competition. Arraez has competed in notable events including reaching the semifinals of the Newport Beach PTT and making it to the round of 16 of the Olaj Men's Open. He has faced highly touted players including Alexei Nesterov (ITF No. 1221), Joseph Corse (ITF No. 1196) and Evan Van Loben Sels (ITF No. 1387).
Coach Schwandt: Rodrigo's work ethic and discipline stood out to us in the recruiting process. He will add fuel to the fire in a training and match environment. A love for the game and the ability to respond to adversity are great weapons that Rodrigo will bring to the Flames.
