Before hitting the practice field on Saturday during a short week, the Flames visited the Media Room in the Liberty Football Center to preview the upcoming matchup at Jax State.
Â
Along with Flames' head coach Jamey Chadwell, the media spoke with quarterback Kaidon Salter and safety Brylan Green.
Â
The Flames are in search of their first-ever victory over the Gamecocks, as Jax State has won all four previous meetings.
Â
Liberty has won 11 straight matchups with CUSA opponents (at time of meeting) overall. No team has won its first four CUSA contests as a league member since Southern Miss started 4-0 in 1996, the inaugural year of CUSA football.
Â
Chadwell is 5-0 in his first season as Liberty's head coach. The all-time best start for a first-year Flames football head coach was 6-0 by Sam Rutigliano in 1989.
Â
Liberty QB Kaidon Salter, a two-time CUSA Offensive Player of the Week, has accounted for multiple TDs in every game this season. He has totaled 12 passing TDs and a team-high six rushing scores through five games.
Â
RB Quinton Cooley has posted three 100-yard rushing performances in his first five games at Liberty. The Flames rank No. 2 nationally in rushing offense (255.2 ypg).
Â
The Flames lead the nation with 11 interceptions this season. CB Kobe Singleton, who has recorded two of those picks, broke up three passes in the final minute to preserve Liberty's 21-16 home win over Sam Houston on Thursday.
