Appropriately, Liberty’s Adelyn Ackley celebrated her 21st birthday by running fast, Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. She placed 11th in the Camel City Elite women’s 3K in a new Liberty and ASUN Conference-record time of 9:24.96.
The first 3K of Ackley’s collegiate career pitted her against a field loaded with talented professional and collegiate opponents. She finished 11th overall, including eighth among collegiate entrants, in a race won by defending NCAA outdoor 5K champion Elly Henes in 8:57.83.
Ackley shattered both the Liberty and ASUN Conference standards on Saturday. The previous Liberty standard of 9:32.67 had been set by Ednah Kurgat at the 2016 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships at Virginia Tech. Kennesaw State’s Lindsay Billings was the previous ASUN record holder, clocking a winning time of 9:30.38 at the 2021 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
