
O’Connor Named Director of Player Development

Liberty baseball head coach Scott Jackson has announced the hiring of former Flames outfielder John O’Connor as Director of Player Development.
O’Connor has spent the last four years as a member of the Liberty baseball program. The Boynton Beach, Fla., native was an outfielder for the Flames from 2018-19 and then, served as a student assistant the past two seasons.
In his position, O’Connor will be responsible for enhancing areas essential to player development on and off the field. Among the areas, he will work with include academics, community service, on-campus camps and clinics, position-specific growth plan, practice and training organization, analytic tracking, opponent scouting, scouting, video coordination, and communication with Major League Baseball.
During his four years in Lynchburg, Va., O’Connor graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in sport management with a minor in business and earned a master’s degree with high distinction in sport management.
O’Connor was a part of Liberty’s ASUN Championship squad and was part of the ASUN Honor Roll in 2019. The outfielder also earned inclusion on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll as a member of the Flames in 2018.
O’Connor transferred to Liberty from Florida Southwestern State. The outfielder was a two-time Suncoast Conference first team and 2017 Suncoast Conference All-Academic team member. In 88 games, he hit .324 with 38 RBI and 50 runs scored.
