
Liberty Track Ready for 2nd Crosstown Meet of Season

Lynchburg Weather
For the second time this season, the Liberty men's and women's track & field teams will travel across town for a meet hosted by the University of Lynchburg. A total of 47 Flames and Lady Flames are entered in the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational, set for Friday and Saturday at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
The Lady Flames' javelin throwers will be Liberty's lone athletes in action on Friday, with their event set for a 6 p.m. start.
The remainder of the events will take place on Saturday, beginning with the men's hammer and women's shot put at 9 a.m.

A live video stream of most of the events is expected to be available on the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network, via YouTube.

Weather Report
Friday and Saturday are expected to see some of the warmest weather in Lynchburg so far in 2021, with temperatures forecasted to reach into the mid to upper 70s each day. Sun will be abundant with precipitation chances low.
Last Time at Lynchburg
Liberty opened its 2021 outdoor track & field season at the Lynchburg Hornet Open on March 13. The Flames enjoyed a successful day of competition, winning 17 events.
Eight of those 17 event champions will be in action at Dr. Jack M. Toms Track again this weekend, including the following athletes:
Grace Artis – Women's Hammer
Kamia Cooper – Women's Long Jump
Megan Mann – Women's Discus
Heidi Tillman – Women's 800
Luke Anderson – Men's 110 Hurdles and 400 Hurdles
Jeremy Davis – Men's Long Jump and Triple Jump
Multiple Events for the Multis
A number of Liberty's multi-event athletes will keep busy this weekend.
Decathletes Anthony Bryan (110 hurdles, high jump, pole vault, discus, 4 x 400 relay) and Cole Peterlin (110 hurdles, pole vault, long jump, discus, 4 x 400 relay) are entered in five events apiece.
Meanwhile, heptathlete Myiah Scott is entered in four events (200, 100 hurdles, high jump, javelin).

Punching Preliminary Round Tickets
The 2021 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet will be contested May 27-29 in Jacksonville, Fla. The East Region's top 32 performers in each event will compete at the meet, with the 12 best finishers advancing to the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Based upon past historical data, here are Liberty's potential NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round qualifiers at this point of the season.
Likely Qualifiers – Jose Ballivian (Men's Shot Put – 61-3), Warren Barrett (Men's Shot Put – 59-2.75) and Kyle Mitchell (Men's Shot Put – 59-5.75)

Liberty will split up its team for the second straight weekend. A majority of the Flames and Lady Flames will compete in the VertKlasse Meeting, April 1 & 2 in High Point, N.C. Meanwhile, some of the team's top distance runners will open their outdoor season on April 2 at the Sound Running College Invite in Irvine, Calif.
