Liberty jumpers Makenzy Mizera (Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week) and Gabriel Willis (Men's Indoor Freshman of the Week) were each honored by the ASUN Conference on Wednesday.
Mizera earns her fourth career ASUN weekly honor after a pair of fourth-place finishes at the Bob Pollock Invitational. The junior from Maryville, Mo., started things off with a season-best 19-3.5 effort in the long jump. That ranks No. 1 in the ASUN and No. 49 nationally this season.
Mizera then put an exclamation point on her weekend at Clemson with a record-breaking 42-8 triple jump during the sixth and final round of the event. It demolished her own program record of 41-10.75 and made Mizera the program's first 13-meter women's triple jumper, indoors or out. The effort ranks No. 2 in ASUN Conference history and No. 14 on this year's NCAA Division I national list.
A native of Carrollton, Texas, Willis repeats as ASUN Freshman of the Week. He high jumped 6-6.75 at the Bob Pollock Invitational to tie for seventh place in the event. Willis ranks second in the ASUN this season with his 6-11.75 clearance at the Liberty Elite Invitational on Jan. 23.
Liberty will next host the inaugural Brant Tolsma Invitational, Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
