Liberty throwers Chelsea Igberaese and Naomi Mojica were both named to the 2011-20 ASUN Conference Women's Track & Field All-Decade Team, as announced today by the conference office.
Throughout the month of July, the ASUN will be recognizing each sport's top student-athletes from the recently completed decade. Liberty spent the final year and a half of the decade as a conference member after joining the ASUN on July 1, 2018.
The Flames have quickly made their presence known in the ASUN Conference, as eight different Liberty squads have won at least one ASUN team title over the last two years. Liberty captured the 2018-19 Bill Bibb Trophy, which is awarded to the ASUN Conference institution with the top overall athletic program.
Igberaese and Mojica have helped the Lady Flames claim three ASUN team titles, including the 2019 indoor and outdoor championships and the 2020 indoor crown.
A native of Dacula, Ga., Igberaese is a two-time ASUN event champion, taking top honors in the 2019 indoor weight throw and 2019 outdoor hammer. Both of her winning marks rank No. 2 in meet history, including her 64-7.75 weight throw and her 186-10 hammer effort. Igberaese has earned a total of five All-ASUN medals during her three ASUN Championship appearances.
Igberaese became the ASUN's first women's discus thrower ever to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2019, placing 20th nationally. Earlier in the season, she heaved the discus a school-record 179-6 at the Texas Relays.
Mojica, who hails from Queretaro, Mexico, has dominated the women's shot put since joining the conference in 2019. She has won all three of her ASUN shot put competitions, setting a new meet record each time. Mojica's ASUN-winning marks have measured 49-5 (2019 indoor), 50-5.25 (2019 outdoor) and 50-4 (2020 indoor). She owns the ASUN all-time records for both the indoor (50-4) and outdoor (52-3.75) shot put.
Mojica also finished second to Igberaese in the women's hammer at the 2019 ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Her personal-best mark of 185-8 is tied for No. 3 all-time in meet history.
