Liberty's Jonathan Embry has been named ASUN Baseball Player of the Week. It is the second consecutive week that a Flame has been selected to receive the weekly honor as first baseman Logan Mathieu was tabbed the ASUN Player of the Week, last week.
Embry hit .438 with six RBI and five runs scored, as Liberty posted a 3-1 record. He collected at least one hit in each of the Flames' four games. The utility player hit his second home run of the season, which scored the only runs in Liberty's 2-0 victory over No. 8 North Carolina this past Tuesday.
Friday evening, Embry was the Flames' starting catcher driving in three runs with a single and sacrifice fly in Liberty's 8-2 win over NJIT. He also threw out a baserunner attempting to steal. Saturday, he had three hits and two doubles, scoring twice against NJIT.
The redshirt junior capped his week, starting in center field in the Liberty's 8-1 win over NJIT. He had two hits, a RBI and a run scored in the victory.
On a 10-game hit streak, Embry enters the week, hitting .329 with 12 RBI and a team-leading 24 runs scored on the season. He is second in the ASUN with eight doubles and has hit two home runs.
Liberty travels to Blacksburg, Va., tomorrow for a contest against the Virginia Tech Hokies. First pitch at English Field at Union Park is scheduled for 4 p.m.
