
Jackson Enjoys Personal-Best Opening Day

Liberty senior Erika Jackson posted her best ever day one heptathlon score (3,043 points), highlighting the Flames' Wednesday at the Mt. SAC Relays Multi Events, contested at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Athletic Stadium.
Jackson ranks 16th of 51 competitors in the California Invitational heptathlon through four events after eclipsing her previous best opening day score of 2,987. The Lynchburg native high jumped an outdoor personal-best 5-4.25, while also posting solid marks in the 100 hurdles (14.86), shot put (35-2.5) and 200 (25.57).
Making her heptathlon debut, freshman Kylie Polsgrove sits in 27th place with 2,883 points. She opened her day with a 100 hurdles time of 14.95 into a slight headwind and then matched Jackson's 5-4.25 high jump clearance. Polsgrove proceeded to record personal-best marks in each of her last two events, including the shot put (29-4) and 200 (25.92).
Redshirt senior Riley Brandon scored 2,737 points on Wednesday for 38th place in the heptathlon standings. She achieved season-best performances in both the high jump (5-1.75) and shot put (36-1.5).
Redshirt sophomore Lewis Williams ranks 16th in Section B of the California Invitational decathlon with a score of 2,913 points through five events. He fashioned his best-ever high jump within a decathlon (5-6) and set season bests in two events (long jump – 17-11.75 and 400 – 54.55). Williams also tied for fifth among the decathletes in his section with his 37-8.75 shot put heave.
Junior teammate Zach Gilroy follows in 17th place in Section B after totaling 2,817 points on the day. The Tennessee native's top event of the day was the 100, where he clocked a personal-best time of 12.16 seconds.
Jackson, Polsgrove and Brandon will resume the heptathlon Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern with the long jump. Thirty minutes later, Williams and Gilroy will begin day two of the decathlon with the 110 hurdles.
